Asus Conferred World's First Eup Certification For Portable Notebooks For Its N Series Notebooks
ASUS, a leading technology company in the new digital era, has been conferred the world’s first EuP (Energy-using Product) certification for Portable Notebooks for its N50, N80, N20, and N10 notebooks. This prestigious achievement is authorized by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an organization certified by the governing body of the EuP Directive. The certification validates ASUS’ full commitment to environmental preservation with its Green Design concept, and highlights the eco-friendliness of ASUS’ N Series notebooks which have already been honored with EU Flower certification in November and EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) Gold awards in October this year.
Products that have been awarded with the EuP certification will be considered as compliant with: approved energy and resource consumption, regulations covering the level of air / water / soil pollutant emissions and the level of noise / vibration / radiation caused during production; as well as the waste production, resource / energy recovery and feasibility of product reuse throughout the whole product life cycle.
The certificate ceremony was held on December 5th, 2008 in Taipei. Representing DNV were Mr. Per Ove Øyberg, Global Manager Business Development, Product Certification, and Mr. Dennis Lin, District Manager, Taiwan, Grand China. Receiving the certificates on behalf of ASUS were Mr. Tony Chen, Chief Operation Officer, and Mr. Frank Lin, Corporate Quality Officer.

The Energy-using Product (EuP) Directive
First adopted by the Council and the European Parliament in November 2007, the EuP Directive provides coherent EU-wide rules for eco-design and ensures that differences between national regulations will not hinder intra-EU trade. As reliance on the operation of energy products increases, there is a need to consider environmental concerns at all levels of the product life cycle. Examples of related measures are the Directives with strict regulation of: the management of waste from electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and the use of certain hazardous substances used in the equipment (RoHS); as well as Directives related to the energy efficiency of appliances such as the Energy Labeling Directive.

Green ASUS: Eco-friendly Notebooks from Conception to End-of-life
ASUS’ sustainability drive—Green ASUS—which was initiated in 2000, pursues the Green ASUS “Four Green Home Runs” in the design and production of each notebook, namely: Green Design, Green Procurement, Green Manufacturing, and Green Service and Marketing. Green ASUS ensures disciplined adherence to environmentally-friendly principles at every step of a notebook’s design and production. The awarding of the EuP certification to the ASUS N50, N80, N20, and N10 notebooks is a result of this uncompromising commitment to eco-consciousness. The success of Green ASUS is also substantiated by the fact that N Series notebooks were conferred EU Flower certification and EPEAT Gold awards in November and October 2008 respectively. In addition, more than 50 ASUS notebooks are now qualified by Energy Star.
