Acer Aspire One Wins Japan Good Design Award
Acer's Aspire One mobile Internet device has received the Japan Good Design Award, one of the internationally renowned design awards, and serves to identify excellent design products that promote the quality of life via the power of design.
The Aspire One was judged from among three thousand-plus entries. A panel of design experts examined each entry from the perspectives of its contribution to society, culture and the global environment.

Acer Aspire One
Launched in July, the Aspire One has been widely praised by the IT-industry media worldwide. In the U.S., the Aspire One was the best selling netbook on Amazon, and in Japan it was the No. 1 netbook brand according to BCN Ranking(1).
The Aspire One is designed to be a true mobile Internet device — anytime, anywhere! Hence, several features were essential to its design; they include a fast boot-up time, an integrated user interface(2), and a full Internet browsing/messenger experience. The dimension and specifications were chosen to provide best combination of ultra-portability, comfortable screen size, navigation and data input.
The Aspire One comes preinstalled with Linpus™ Linux® Lite version or Windows XP® Home, is extremely compact, measuring just 24 x 17 cm and weighing one kilo(3). It offers numerous connectivity possibilities, a full and easy-to-use software application suite2 and a battery life of up to 6 hours(4). Access to online activities is made fast and simple no matter where the user may be.
To increase storage capacity or transfer files, the Aspire One features a unique Smart File Manager, a simple solution that instantly and seamlessly merges extra storage from any SD card inserted in the second SD card slot into the memory available to the user. Expanding the storage has never been so easy. The Aspire One is built with WiFi (+) WAN ready.
Available in five glossy colors — diamond black, sapphire blue, seashell white, coral pink, and golden brown — each presents an individual and distinctive look and feel that matches the style and personality of its owner.
The Good Design Award is a comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system instituted by the Japan Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 1957, and organized by The Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization (JIDPO).
The result is pure technological simplicity with optimized software interface to support connectivity needs and ultimately, to "simplify my life."
