Toshiba Integrates New Technology Into Business Laptops And Releases New LED Projector On Display At CES 2009
Focusing on an evolving business environment in which mobile warriors and entrepreneurs need to improve efficiencies in the workplace and stay connected while on the go, Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS), today announced a lineup of business-oriented products on display during CES 2009.
The broad array of business offerings showcased at the world’s largest consumer electronics show range from the Toshiba Portégé® R600-ST520W—Toshiba’s first ultraportable laptop with WiMAX—to the ever popular Satellite Pro® and Tecra® product lines with EasyGuard® Technology and industry-leading warranties. WiMAX is the next generation of high-speed wireless technology (4G) delivering low-cost Internet access to WiMAX enabled devices. The Portégé R600-ST520W which integrates Intel® Wireless WiMAX and WiFi Link technology will be rolling out to cities across the country in 2009.

TAIS also recently announced a relationship with Sun Microsystems to deliver laptops preconfigured with OpenSolaris™, the open source operating system designed for high-performance computing environments. New features in OpenSolaris include Time Slider, an easy-to-use graphical interface that brings powerful ZFS functionality, like instant snapshots, to all users. This makes TAIS the first company to offer laptops with the OpenSolaris operating system. The OpenSolaris laptops are targeted for availability in early 2009.
“Toshiba invests heavily in research and development and it shows in our products—we’re able to integrate various technologies and provide greater innovation at lower price points,” said Jeff Barney, vice president and general manager of Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. “At the same time, we design, engineer and build most of our business-focused laptops, which is why we have a sterling reputation for quality. And of course, the OpenSolaris option will allow us to offer business professionals exactly what they demand—an even broader range of computing choices.”
