Lenovo Brings “E” Education Netbook PC To The Classroom And Campus
Lenovo today introduced its “e” IdeaPad S10e netbook for education. Designed for students for one-to-one computing in grades K-12 as well as those in higher education, the new netbook combines the portability of a small and light PC device starting under three pounds with Internet and multimedia functionality at an affordable price.
“Following the popularity of our recently introduced consumer netbooks, we are expanding our IdeaPad netbook line with models customized to the unique needs of students, teachers and education customers,” said Scott DiValerio, president, Americas, and senior vice president, Lenovo. “With technology choices including solid state drive storage, Windows or Linux operating systems and flexible warranties, we’re enabling our customers to use Lenovo netbooks in a variety of settings, from instruction in the classroom to wherever they study, collaborate and learn.”

Enabling Technology-LED Learning
The Lenovo e-netbook complements Lenovo’s recent consumer netbook, the IdeaPad S10 netbook. Lenovo designed the IdeaPad S10e netbook as an introductory mobile PC for students in grades K-12 and as a secondary device for those in higher education. Ideal devices for connecting to the Internet for online research, students can use the netbook for sharing ideas and for conversation through email, social networking and other applications. Additionally, the Lenovo netbook provides basic functionality for word processing and light multimedia capabilities. A built-in webcam on the 10.1 inch display makes creating and sharing video messaging simple. And for a faster PC experience, the Quick Start[1] feature allows students to quickly check email, browse the Internet, conduct video conferencing, view photos or listen to music without having to fully boot the operating system.
Tailor-Made For Individual Schools’ Needs
Lenovo offers a variety of customization options including hardware technologies, educational software and flexible warranties to fit the individual needs of schools. Choices of operating systems include Microsoft Windows XP Home or SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop from Novell. Designed to handle the rigors of student computing, the netbook comes equipped with a 4 GB solid state drive for reliability or a hard disk drive up to 160 GB.
The netbook comes with the Intel® Atom™ processor, several choices of memory sizes and a variety of ports for expansion. Students can connect wired or wirelessly through Ethernet, WiFi3 and optional Bluetooth. Outfitted with a standard ExpressCard 34 slot, the netbook can also be enabled for mobile broadband.[2]
Following the popularity of our recently introduced consumer netbooks, we are expanding our IdeaPad netbook line with models customized to the unique needs of students, teachers and education customers.
To increase 21st century skills adoption, Lenovo can help schools integrate netbooks with educational software content from Adobe Systems, Inc. and VitalSource Technologies, as well as a host of other academic packages. Lenovo also offers flexible warranties extending up to three years and shorter warranty periods covering limited parts replacement.
Lenovo’s new education netbook is being showcased at Educause, October 28-30, 2008. For a demonstration and more information at the show, visit Lenovo’s booth, No. 1133.
